MESOTHELIOMA
LAWYER
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart, the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis.
Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. It has also been suggested that washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking, but smoking greatly increases risk of other asbestos-induced cancer. Compensation via asbestos funds or lawsuits is an important issue in mesothelioma.
The symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall) or chest wall pain, and general symptoms such as weight loss. The diagnosis may be suspected with chest X-ray and CT scan, and is confirmed with a biopsy (tissue sample) and microscopic examination. A thoracoscopy (inserting a tube with a camera into the chest) can be used to take biopsies. It allows the introduction of substances such as talc to obliterate the pleural space (called pleurodesis), which prevents more fluid from accumulating and pressing on the lung. Despite treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or sometimes surgery, the disease carries a poor prognosis. Research about screening tests for the early detection of mesothelioma is ongoing.
An Asbestos

cancer victims with the diseases
known to be caused
by exposure to asbestos. Personal
Injury Lawyers then bring

WHAT
IS ASBESTOS?
An
Asbestos lawyer must prove exposure
to asbestos, where and
who is responsible. Asbestos
is the name for a group of naturally
occurring silicate minerals that
can be separated into fibers.
The fibers are strong, durable,
and resistant
to heat and fire. They are also
long, thin and flexible, so that
they can
even be woven into cloth.
An
Asbestos Lawyer
represents victims of asbestos
exposure who
are
suffering
from
mesothelioma, lung cancer, asbestosis.
WHAT
IS MESOTHELIOMA?
Mesothelioma
is a cancer of the cells that make
up the lining around the outside
of the lungs and inside of the ribs
(pleura), or around the abdominal
organs (peritoneum).The only known
cause of mesothelioma in the U.S.
is previous exposurethemse to asbestos
fibers. Asbestos manufacturers knew
about the hazards of asbestos seventy
years ago - but they kept this knowledge
to lves.
What does asbestos have to do with
mesothelioma?
The only known cause of mesothelioma
in the U.S. is previous exposure to
asbestos fibers. Asbestos manufacturers
knew about the hazards of asbestos
seventy years ago - but they kept this
knowledge to themselves. The first
warnings to workers exposed to asbestos
were given in the mid-1960s, and they
were terribly inadequate. Even today,
workers are not always told they are
working around asbestos and are at
risk for asbestos disease.
What can someone with mesothelioma
do?
- Seek out the best and most up-to-date
information
- Seek out the best medical
care.
- Stay in close contact with
your doctor.
- Consider whether or
not you want to bring a lawsuit
because of
this asbestos-related
injury.
- Remember that resources
are available to you through
community and
medical support groups,
asbestos victims' organizations,
your place of worship,
as well as your family and friends.
ASBESTOS
RELATED DISEASES:
ASBESTOSIS - PULMONARY ASBESTOSIS
Inhaled asbestos particles can cause
a scarring of the lung tissue called
pulmonary asbestosis. Over a long
period of time (the latency period
is 10 to 30 or more years), microscopic
asbestos fibers that are retained
in the lung tissue can cause scarring
to occur in the alveoli; the tiny
balloon-like structures in the lungs
where oxygen is distributed to the
blood vessels. It takes many years
for this scarring to become visible
on an x-ray or CT-scan.
PLEURAL DISEASE
Probably the most common asbestos-related
illness is asbestos-related pleural
disease. Also called pleural asbestosis,
pleural plaques or pleural thickening,
it is a scarring of the lining of
the lung caused by asbestos exposure.
Asbestos-related pleural disease
has a long latency period (10 to
30 or more years from first exposure)
and can be detected on a chest x-ray
or CT-scan. Like pulmonary asbestosis,
asbestos-related pleural disease
is untreatable and incurable.
LUNG
CANCER
Lung
cancer (also known as bronchogenic
carcinoma) is a disease that can
be caused by asbestos exposure, particularly
in people who also smoked cigarettes.

ARE THE DAMAGES?

claim alleging the loss of life was
